BGL’s Head of Consumer, John R. Tilson, is quoted in Crain’s Cleveland Business on the decline of brick-and-mortar stores in the retail industry.
John Tilson, a managing director in the Chicago office of middle market investment bank Brown Gibbons Lang & Co., has worked with retailers for years but now focuses on helping manufacturers and online retailers sell directly to consumers. He said he sees the play for physical retailing over the next few years as finding concepts that can capitalize on reusing existing vacated storefronts.
When landlords accept that empty space is “a hole in their pocket,” he said, it may create openings for a new wave of specialty retailing.
